Installing and registering QX-Effects
The following files are installed into your QuarkXPress XTension folder:
QX-Effects 3.0
QX-Effects Engines folder
Also, a number of saved effects are placed in a QX-Effects Prefs folder located in the system Preferences folder.
During the launch of QuarkXPress, you will be requested to serialize and register QX-Effects. Please enter the serial number located on the back of the manual. If you do not have a serial number, you can choose to run QX-Effects in demo mode. The demo mode allows full functionality for 30 days.
Please register using one of the built-in electronic registration methods. If you do not have a modem, fax, or printer, you may fill out the registration card in the back of the manual.
Microtek Scanners on Macintosh computers:
Microtek scanners may interfere with the built-in electronic registration process. If you are using a Microtek scanner, please turn it off before attempting to register QX-Effects. You may turn the scanner back on once the registration process is complete.
General Notes on QX-Effects Use:
1. A Preview Warnings dialog has been added to warn you when a picture in the background of the effect will not be included in the effect for one of the following reasons:
a) The picture is modified or missing
b) The picture is rotated or skewed
c) The picture is in a picture box that is not rectangular
d) The picture is not a TIFF file
These warnings can be disabled in the Preferences dialog. Choose "Preferences" from the QX-Effects menu to open this dialog.
2. Adobe Type Manager's Text Smoothing option can cause a halo-like effect when text is included in the effect. We recommend turning this smoothing option off in your ATM Control Panel before creating these kinds of effects.
3. The manual incorrectly states that holding the Control key down, while in the Glow, Bevel, or Emboss preview, will change the cursor to the pointer tool. This feature is only available for the Cast Shadow and Drop Shadow components.
